Soften the residue first.

Using force to remove the residue may damage the paint. All the solvent has evaporated from the wax, leaving a solid lump. By applying more wax to the area, the solvent in the fresh wax will soften the residue.

Wipe off carefully

Wipe off the wax immediately after applying.
